I have started Resilient Minds after years of working in traditional psychiatry settings and seeing how the system fails patients and providers. Providers are left burned out and patients often have suboptimal results. All practitioners at Resilient Minds are trained with ongoing supervision to take a functional medicine approach to psychiatry. This means investigating the root cause of pathology and providing interventions which truly heal, not bandaids that lead to further issues. When patients and providers are able to seek the genuine restoration of health, the experience is rewarding for both parties.
I started my career in community mental health, emergency room psychiatry, inpatient facilities, treatment centers and eventually began working with high functioning professionals on an outpatient basis. Most recently I served as the West Coast Associate Clinical Director of Psychiatry at a national psychiatry practice. While this was a rewarding experience, I was squarely confronted with our broken healthcare system. A one size fits all model with short visits forces the provider to avoid diving deep and robs them of the joy of being with patients. It seems the American Pharma industry drives medication first and the insurance industry allows for time limited CBT therapy sessions, second. For patients suffering from treatment resistant depression, existential angst, complex relational trauma, prolonged grief, executive dysfunction, cognitive sluggishness, fatigue and unremitting anxiety, a functional medicine approach offers patients true empowerment and recovery. A truly integrative approach to psychiatry allows the patient to see the same practitioner for coaching, therapy, medication management and holistic alternative healing practices. At Resilient Minds the practitioner acts as the primary care coordinator for the patient's mental, spiritual and even some physical health issues, referring out to other healers as appropriate.
Resilient Minds is here to serve all who seek emotional, spiritual, psychic and body healing. I hope to expand and bring on a group of bright, resilient, empathic and open minded clinicians and healers.
